Lampang Rajabhat University, formerly known as Lampang Teachers College, was established on June 9, 1971, and began offering education programs in 1972. Initially focused on teacher education, it expanded to bachelor's degree programs in 1976 and later diversified into liberal arts and sciences. It played a key role in forming the "United College of Lanna" alongside other northern Thai teacher colleges. In 1992, it was renamed Rajabhat Institute Lampang by King Bhumibol Adulyadej and began offering postgraduate programs in 1999. The institution officially became Lampang Rajabhat University in 2004 under the Rajabhat University Act and transitioned under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation in 2019.
